Your old device is referred to as an E-waste item.E-waste is a term that describes the disposal of internal and external parts of electronics. Currently E-waste is one of the biggest growing pollution in the world. This is due to the fact that users have an easy accessibility to purchasing new products. In addition, electronic manufacturers are currently producing very influential products at a very rapid rate, which leads consumers into purchasing new items and consequently increasing the E-waste emission (Vidal).

How much E-waste do our nations generate?

The rates at which E-waste is being generated are detrimental. The United States alone produced 10 million tons of e-waste in 2012. The world discarded 49 million tons of E-waste in 2016, and that number is expected to exceed 60 million. Those statistics denote that on average, a person generates approximately 7 kg of E-waste per year. With the current speed that manufacturers are producing new electronics, it is expected to have a 33% percent increase in the emission of E-waste (Vidal) .
